Founded in Athens in 2020 by Ioanna Vlachaki, the Studio investigates the interaction between architecture and object design, focusing on the ambient space between details and large-scale volumes.
Inspired by building elements and techniques, anonymous craftsmen, and folk Greek tradition, we handle the process of architecture, interior and furniture design in a sculptural manner. The process is heavily stimulated by contemporary and non-pedigree architecture, as well as the local and rural culture.
The Studio strives for a balance between contemporary and traditional elements through harmony and contradiction. The sensory relevance is achieved by introducing cultural value both into details and larger scale. We seek high and low-end materials that reflect time and human traces on their skin, underpinning the philosophy of timeless, aging matter that becomes art. We work with local craftsmen to extract, deconstruct, reshape and revalue raw materials such as metal, stone, limestone, marble, and wood, provoking them to exude their historical and quotidian use.
Through an overarching exploration between void and solid parts, we venture projects that span the domain of architecture, furniture and interior design, actively practicing the sensibility that this process requires.
